What makes a cycling Princess – a Princess?

The whole meaning behind Princess Pedal – is a little tongue-in-cheek.

Several years ago – It seemed to me that there were a bunch of gals out there like myself who wanted to be fit, enjoy the challenge of training with some intensity, and weren’t the least bit interested in joining a highly competitive group to have fun.  Like-minded gals who knew how to play hard-ish and enjoy the fruits of their labour (and sometimes fruits of the vine) with smiles on their faces.  Self-proclaimed, sort-of Princesses (but not really) – so to speak.  Thus, Princess Pedal was born.

I wanted to create something that helped women to develop their cycling confidence and work on their fitness at the same time.  Support, acceptance, skill and learning needed to be central to this effort.

Since 2014, Princess Pedal has been a real thing.  Ladies have been enjoying week-long ‘retreats’ that are not typical of retreats.  The only yoga at ‘camp’ is incorporated into the week in order to help us recover from our rides.  Five riders on road bikes or hybrids, 6 nights, 5 days, 300+kms, home-cooked meals, comfy accommodations and small group coaching.  A great week to unwind from life and be treated to R’nR in a uniquely challenging yet supportive environment.  WHAT?  Is this possible?  You bet it is.

For gals not yet comfortable on their bikes or not ready for a week of riding – there’s the Princess Pedal clinic.  Over two days (6 hours of instruction), women can learn to change a tire, grease a chain, and navigate some basic and not so basic bike handling skills.  Thinking of road riding or simply staying on the city pathway and cycle-tracks?  Any woman can leave this clinic feeling more confident with their skills and rules of the road.

Princesses?  Sort-of, if that means being treated with special care, kindness and respect.
