New discoveries. New limits. Raising the bar…

I had trouble finding the right title for today’s entry.  You’ll see why.

Today we logged 70km.

More than that though, we made headway.  2015-06-16 10.12.40

In short:

  • Princess I can’t becomes Princess I-can-do-anything
  • The Lipstick Princess becomes Ace Princess Mechanic
  • Princess scared-to-go-downhill shows her true colors.  We now refer to her as Princess big-ring-songbird-uphill master.

The day was going to be hot and the Princesses were nervous.  Ahead of us was the famous ‘Wall’ which involves an easy 20km ride to Okanagan Falls followed by a 3km ride on a lovely quiet road… followed by a fairly steep (12%?) 2km climb to See Ya Later winery.  At that point the majority of the work would be over – but it was tough convincing them otherwise.  Nonetheless – we launched early and were at the top by 10:20am.  After some touring about and some pace line practise, we headed for home.  In 30C+ heat – it was no small feat.  An hour of yoga with Rose from Reflexions Yoga Studio and the ladies were feeling fine.  Ok, maybe not fine but all things considered – pretty darn good.

The daily developments included:

Princess Sandy learned to change her own brake pads. “That was easy!”

Princess Zenny discovered that she could do a whole lot more than she thought.  This given that she fell off her bike during our skills session on Monday and seems to have knocked a rib out of place.  Most would have stopped, but Princess Zenny soldiered on.

Princess MC can climb with the best of them – it’s the downhill that challenges her.  Not to worry though – she’ll have that nailed by the end of the week.  In the mean time, she’ll keep us all entertained with whatever tune it is that enters her head.  She has quite a repertoire, I must say.

Princess Jane is considering a new career.  Professional cycle tourer (is that a word?).  Solid as a rock and a pleasure to be around.

Tomorrow involves a longer ride with a fair bit of vertical – but we have Gord delivering our lunch – so something other than the wonderful scenery along Green Mountain Road to look forward to.

Until later.2015-06-16 10.13.47
