With wind and heavy rain (up to 100mm) warnings all around the coast today, we must have been a little crazy to think that we could squeeze a hike into the week, but we did.  Sometimes the crazy ideas are the best ones.

After a short drive to Mount Washington and the Paradise Meadows Trailhead we took the risk and went anyway.  The clouds were low and the ‘mist’ was persistent but not enough to stop us and to be honest, the whole hike was quite pleasant.

The 17km hike was not without its challenges.  The footing at times was a bit tricky, but generally the trails are well marked.  We got a fair bit of relief from the uneven and ‘rooty’ terrain with some boardwalks along the way.  We were entertained by some Grey Jays (aka Whiskey Jacks) at lunch time and observed carefully by a relatively unconcerned young deer as we wandered through the forest.  We encountered a particularly posh outhouse that was worth the stop as well.  These BC folks take their ‘business’ seriously!

Our timing was impeccable because we arrived back at the parking lot mere minutes before it started to rain heavily. Someone wisely suggested that if we waited until the weather was perfect, we’d never do anything.

A beer and some treats on the Ranger Station covered deck and we were ready to hit the road.  A tired group of cyclists-come-hikers but pleasantly so.  Day 3 in the bag.  Thanks Crew.  It was a great day.
