Comox Valley Bike Tour – Day 2

We rode.  We fell.  We fixed.  We ate and drank and we laundered.

The day started with terrific sunshine and warmth in the air.  We headed out for our ride with plenty of optimism and adventure in our hearts.  We had a fairly straight forward plan to head to Fanny Bay for lunch.  This would take us through a nice little park near the ocean and out along the Old Island Highway.  This happens to be a nicely paved road with only a bit of the usual crud at in the shoulders.  It was a little busy with morning traffic, but generally, very enjoyable.

At Union Bay we stopped for a little breather.  As anyone who has clipped into pedals knows, there is the risk of not clipping out in time and we had one of those experiences.  Fortunately, we were stopped in a parking lot when we had our second crash of the trip.  “Only a flesh wound” though.  After a little minor ‘first aid’ administration, we were good.  Or at least until we experienced our first flat of the week. No problem, the sun was still shining and attitudes were positive.  John managed the pressure of repairing his tire with a 5 member audience.  Good on him.  He didn’t waver and had his tire fixed in no time at all.

Off to lunch… at the Fanny Bay Inn.  Affectionately referred to as the FBI.  The place for oysters, fish, more oysters and of course, good beer and great service. After a delicious meal and a pint or two – we were on our way again.

All in good humour and a lightness in our hearts (not to mention a little beer in our legs)– we finished the ride with enough energy to wander to  Café Milano for a latte and yes, a side-trip for a couple of us – to the laundromat. I’m not sure if there has ever been a study of the folks who visit a laundromat, but there really should be.  It can be a source of curiosity, entertainment and … stories.  Maybe bloggable for another day.

Overall, a terrific Day 2 of our Comox adventure. The weather looks to be changing and we might be in for a wet hike tomorrow.  No Chickens, here!

Stay tuned and RideSplendidly!
