In my mind (and you may or may not want to go there), there is no better way to explore an area and really see a place than from the seat of a bicycle. Today was one of those days.
This is DAY 1 of 5 in the Comox Valley with 5 other riders including my trusty Comox guide and life-partner, Gord. We set out at a very reasonable hour for a little Tour de Comox/Courtenay/Municipal District and it all came through for us nicely. Nice riding temperature with a little sunshine and a light sprinkle through the rain forest, followed by an afternoon walk- through said rain forest in the afternoon.
Lunch in between bike and hike, was enjoyed at a local take-out window known as George’s. George was a fellow who offered hot, fresh, quick food at a very reasonable price. George opened his operation 50 years ago (I was of course practically a baby), and his son has carried on the tradition with “Mama” still at the grill and on the till, today. There’s nothing like enjoying a burger and fries (or whatever you’re up for) using a car hood as your picnic table.
On the ride we encountered ‘city’, ‘country’, ‘farm-life’, forest, golf courses, meadows as well as airfields. On the nature walk in Seal Bay, rain forest, banana slugs, beaches, and ocean. This is an absolutely beautiful area and we had a terrific tour with only one ‘crash’ and several tired bums. A good day, eh?
The Weather networks tell us that our blissful week of riding and hiking may be interrupted with some of the wet stuff, but as we see it – it’s not the smoky stuff or the white stuff – so we’re keen to let the week roll out as it will.
RideSplendidly!
