(Brittany) Runs a Marathon

Here are some random thoughts that ran (no pun intended) through my mind when I finally got around to watching Brittany Runs a Marathon the other day.  This is a cute, low budget film that documents a young lady’s transition from couch potato to marathon runner.

If you’re a runner – you’ll get it.  Actually – if you’re human you’ll get it.  Many of my random thoughts apply to life in general with whatever you’re involved with.  I’ve included some brackets for you to insert your activity, passion, sub-culture.  Maybe you’ll identify.

(Running) friends can be the best friends.

People will always surprise you.

Marathon training surprises you.

Life is a surprise if you’re a (runner).

If possession is 9/10th of the law – then what is obsession?

Elation, disappointment, heart break are all part of life.

Health, injury and setbacks are all part of living on the edge.  You’re challenging your physiology to its limits and finding new limits with every new distance, speed, box checked.

The tables turn.  You are being supported – then you are the supporter.  You are the rookie – then the veteran.

The music (or narrative) that plays in your ears can (will) determine your trajectory.

This is a personal mission.  No one else will successfully launch your (marathon) career.

Shaking it off can become deny, deny, deny in a heartbeat.

The point at which you say “I got this”.

“You made it a really long way – do you need help?” – When quitting is simply not an option.

No, you don’t need help.  You need resolve, courage and belief in ‘me’.

(Running) friends understand when many others just don’t.

The finish line is only just the beginning.
