Bicycling and Driving Etiquette. The real-life rules are simple.

It’s an interesting thing, bicycle etiquette.  I read weekly in the local newspaper about how vehicle operators are fed up with cyclists.  Alternatively, I hear about how cyclists are fed up with drivers.  Ok, so here’s my attempt at finding a happy medium.  Cycling and driving etiquette BEGINS with the rules of the road.

Stop at stop signs.

Yield to the right of way of anyone at said stop sign.

Signal your intention. Slow, stop, right or left.  It’s pretty simple.

Make eye contact on the road, at intersections, whenever you are concerned someone doesn’t see you.

Pay attention to and for – those riding/driving with you.

Be courteous, kind and respectful of your size.  If you are Big and Heavy – you can kill someone who is Small and Light.  It’s physics, not rocket science.

Be nice.  Cyclists are out there for their health, not their death.  Drivers are out there because they have to be.  They are probably busy getting home to drive their kids to soccer practice.
