Hump Day.
Usually the middle of any week can seem a bit of a drag. Not today however. The LiveSplendidly Cycle, Hike and Kayak Tour managed to check all of the boxes.
Part of the group went hiking in the woods or in the mountains and part of the group did a little sea-kayaking. Everyone had a great day and we all met for a delicious dinner at Atlas Cafe to rehash the day.
I can only speak directly to the kayaking but by all accounts, the hikers had a terrific day, checking their own boxes. High mountain blueberries, mushrooms and wildlife. Seals playing and hunting in Seal Bay (go figure) and some sampling of interesting and tasty beverages at Wayward distillery and Ace Brewery in Courtenay. All part of the Comox Valley experience!
The kayaking was a 4 hour trip planned through Comox Valley Kayak and Canoes. We arrived at Union Bay and were met by Graham with all of his gear. Without delay we headed off to Tree Island where we poked around, said hello to some seals, found some sand dollars and oysters (both dead and alive), and perched ourselves on plenty of driftwood on the beach. After a little lunch break, we were able to paddle along the shores of Denman Island before returning to our launch. Graham was a terrific guide – able to provide a ton of local knowledge and offer many tidbits about marine life.
The weather was fine, the water provided us with both some calm, as well as not-so-calm – so we were able to recruit more muscle groups than we expected. Yay?
In all – a fine day. Tomorrow, we are back on the bikes.
Until next time.
