It’s not a new drinking game. It’s not about sharing water bottles. It’s also not about what one does at Scout camp while winter camping.
When you’re cycling for a week with Princesses over a certain age – it’s about passing the bottle of Advil. We love pushing hard. We love feeling a little sore after a workout. What is sometimes hard is getting going in the morning without a little chemistry. That was the topic this morning sometime around breakfast. How many riders partook in the contents of the bottle – I don’t know. But I do know that we left on time. Comfortably.
It was a challenging day today. Day 3, 800m elevation gain, lots of nice quiet road to start, busy highway to finish. Humpday. The Princesses did a terrific job today, pacing themselves and choosing when it was time to take a break. Bonus – no wipe-outs. Double bonus – friend Diane not only brought lunch but ferried a couple of tired riders up the Yellow Lake hill. Fantastic.
It’s always after the ride that you feel the best. Even if the ride is the most scenic or just the right combination of up and downhill. Or, if your riding partners are good about keeping you distracted during the tough stuff. The buzz after it’s over is absolutely the best kind of intoxication. Forget passing the bottle for this kind of feeling. I’ll take it naturally – and I think that the Princesses will agree.
We may however, start the day by passing the bottle (or taking a dip in the the hot tub) to get the bods moving – tomorrow.
